Climate in Museums and Historical Buildings
Tempering

Deutsch

The Kunstforum Ostdeutsche Galerie in Regensburg participated
together with partners from Austria (Schönbrunn Palace, Vienna; Technical
University of Vienna; Collection of Ancient Musical Instruments SAM at the
Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna), Slovenia (Institute for Civil Engineering
ZRMK, Ljubljana, University of Ljubljana) and Sweden (Haftcourt Ltd.,
Stockholm) in the research project EUREKA EU 1383 PREVENT.

The task of the German Partner within this project, as an example of a large
painting museum with tempering, was to document and analyze the effect
of tempering on room climate.
Because of the universal importance for museums, building construction and historical preservation,
the tempering method should be available for general application. The planned publication serves this
purpose. With its combination of scientific and practical articles it is designed to serve as a handbook
for the application of tempering.

Overview of the Contents:

  • Fundamental articles on tempering (theory and technology)
  • Discussion of "International Standard-Climate Values" as related to the heating,
ventilating, and air conditioning of museums and historical buildings
  • Computer simulation of tempered buildings
  • Reports on tempered museums: Städtishe Galerie im Lenbachhaus,
    Munich; Ernst Barlach Haus, Stiftung Hermann F. Reemtsma, Hamburg;
    Kunstforum Ostdeutsche Galerie, Regensburg
  • Tempering in combination with natural controlled ventilation at low
air exchange rates in a high traffic historical building (Schönbrunn Palace)
  • Comparative studies of heating systems in historical buildings
(Tempering as the economically, conservationally, and physically optimal solution)
  • Additional articles by authors from Germany, Austria, Italy, and Slovenia,
describe experiences with highly diverse applications of tempering: palaces, churches,
open-air museums, schools, and for residential spaces in old and new buildings as
    well as historical buildings
The book, which is being published in cooperation with Schönbrunn Palace, is available now
and is ca. 190 pages long, of which more than one hundred are in color, with additional
articles on a CD-ROM (total cost ca. 40 EUR).
The book is bilingual in German and English. Abstracts are printed in both German and English.
Long versions and translated versions of the articles are found on the CD.
